So far, Michel Camilo has made 21 recordings, all to great critical and popular acclaim and they have won him numerous prizes such as the (Latin) Grammy Awards and an Emmy Award. The recordings range from solo projects and projects for duos, trios and sextets to a Big Band album and even a collaboration with a full symphony orchestra. For the second evening in his special portrait series, Michel Camilo and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra will perform George Gershwin and give the first Austrian premiere of his own composition, his Second Piano Concerto, »Tenerife«. The programme’s span will therefore stretch from Gershwin’s »Rhapsody in Blue« and »Porgy and Bess« to Michel Camilo’s own fascinating sound world, a kaleidoscope of musical richness perfectly in tune to the artist himself. The evening will be a display not only of Michel Camilo’s composing skills and his breathtaking keyboard technique, but also of fabulous music.
