Schubert's enigmatic beauty
For one of the most beautiful works of Romantic chamber music, the Quatuor Mosaïques has invited a good friend: Raphaël Pidoux, a pupil of János Starker and today a household name above all in the French early music scene, will be the fifth in the quintet of Schubert's masterful string quintet. Pidoux, who plays a violoncello by Goffredo Cappa from 1680, fits perfectly into the ensemble, not least due to his long-standing acquaintance with the four musicians. With the wonderful tone of his instrument, he will also contribute to the revelation of the enigmatic beauty of this chamber music swan song by Schubert. This will be preceded by a piece of classical minimal music by Joseph Haydn and the sixth string quintet from Luigi Boccherini's Opus 29, an early milestone in composition for string quartet with obbligato second cello.
