With style into the new year

For over 100 years, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day have been celebrated musically in the Wiener Konzerthaus. This year again, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, this time under Manfred Honeck, will perform Beethoven's Ninth - music for eternity. The Strauss Festival Orchestra will dedicate itself to the opulent compositions of the Strauss dynasty in its proven manner: this time under the motto "Fairy Tales from the Orient". Art piper Nikolaus Habjan and his guests get into the right mood for the coming year. At the New Year's Eve Gala, the Philharmonix will delight the audience with a virtuoso "best of" their skills. Conferencier Holger Wemhoff will moderate the evening and we look forward to many surprise guests. Happy New Year!

Intellectual drive & technical brilliance

The "New York Times" calls him the "most important artist of his generation". But Igor Levit "does not want to be just the man who presses the keys" ("Die Zeit"). With an alert and critical mind, he places his art in the context of social events and understands it as inseparably connected with them. He is now giving a guest performance in the Great Hall with Beethoven's "33 Changes over a Waltz by Diabelli" - the so-called "Diabelli Variations". Igor Levit's approach to the work of the Bonn master promises a stimulating piano recital: "Beethoven is music for us and about us.

Thielemann conducts Bruckner

With his Third, Anton Bruckner created a truly great symphony, which is carried by the idea of the monumental in every detail. Now Christian Thielemann, together with the Vienna Philharmonic, is taking on this colossal symphony, which Bruckner dedicated to Richard Wagner, whom he admired so much. We can be curious about the conductor's interpretation, whom the media like to call a »stubborn fanatic of expression«. Thielemann's approach is probably not only the strict analysis of the work: »It is quite frightening and terribly unintellectual, but: I conduct because I enjoy it!«
