Sensual opulence
Antoine Tamestit is forbidden to tap on the body of his viola – after all, it is a genuine Stradivarius and on loan. This can occasionally become a problem with contemporary music, for which the French violist has a great passion. The busy musician is also our guest with a viola concerto. It was written by Jörg Widmann, who is one of the most exciting and versatile artists of his generation. Teodor Currentzis conducts the SWR Symphony Orchestra and performs a work by the Ukrainian composer Oleksandr Shchetynsky, with whom he has a long-standing friendship. The program is completed by the Fifth Symphony by Dmitri Shostakovich. A musical appeal for peace and reconciliation.
