Jazzy Birthday, Graf Orlok!
The »Film + Music Live« cycle kicks off with »Nosferatu - A Symphony of Horror«, a film gem from the era of the Weimar Republic. Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau set groundbreaking standards for the genre in 1922. And the new film score commissioned to mark the 100th anniversary of the early Dracula adaptation is also innovative. Jazz pianist Michael Wollny, »Germany's greatest hope in jazz«, is responsible for it. Praised for his »virtuoso technique, exuberant imagination [...] and capacity for creative chaos« (FAZ), the musician has harbored a passion for horror since childhood and is a self-confessed »Nosferatu« fan: »I believe [...] that the most exciting stories are told in the horror genre«, says Wollny. Whether jazz, electro sounds, pop, classical or punk: Wollny, together with Christian Weber and the Norwegian Wind Ensemble, gives the grotesque Count Orlok a new musical garb that will make the hearts of horror fans beat faster even in the 21st century.
