György Ligeti

On the 28th of May 2023, our honorary member György Ligeti would have turned one hundred years – an occasion for us to pay tribute to this important composer in a representative cross-section of his oeuvre. In numerous concerts, the Wiener Philharmoniker, the Wiener Symphoniker, the ORF Radio-Symphonieorchester Wien and the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg as well as the soloists Denis Kozhukhin, Félix Dervaux and Alisa Weilerstein will perform three of his four solo concertos and his most important orchestral works. The two string quartets will be performed by Quatuor Ébène and Quatuor Diotima respectively, and his most important piano and organ works will be performed by Kit Armstrong, our »Great Talent« Anton Gerzenberg and Iveta Apkalna. And of course, with Klangforum Wien, Ensemble PHACE and the œsterreichisches ensemble fuer neue musik, the leading Austrian specialist ensembles are also taking part in this portrait series. With Daisy Press and the Neuen Vocalsolisten, they place the accent on Ligeti's vocal music, to which the Company of Music is also dedicated.
