Pleasure and happy times
It is a truly ambitious project: Rudolf Lutz and the orchestra of the St. Gallen-based J. S. Bach Foundation have set themselves the task of performing and recording all of Johann Sebastian Bach's great vocal works. The project, which is fast approaching its completion, began in 2006 and the charismatic conductor has already proven several times at the Wiener Konzerthaus how entertaining and at the same time knowledgeable he is in presenting this magnum opus. The program this time, introduced by the Overture / Orchestral Suite No. 2 in B minor BWV 1067, includes the church cantata »Ich bin vergnügt mit meinem Glücke« BWV 84, which stands for envy-free contentment and musically alludes to a simple, happy country life with an important oboe part. The Concerto in A major BWV 1055, known today as the Harpsichord Concerto, is performed in a reconstructed version for oboe d'amore, before the wedding cantata »O holder Tag, erwünschte Zeit« BWV 210 concludes the concert with extremely demanding parts for soprano and flute.
