Transcending boundaries

»What drives this music is man's longing for freedom as well as the insatiable desire to expand his own boundaries [...]«. What the Belcea Quartet writes in the preface to its complete recording of the Beethoven Quartets can also be considered its own artistic credo: The fact that these four musicians do not allow themselves to be confined by traditional boundaries may also be due to the international composition of this top ensemble. The program of its second evening at the Wiener Konzerthaus this season is also border-crossing, ranging from Schubert to Debussy to the contemporary French composer Guillaume Connesson.
