Alexandra Dovgan

»You can see what can still be done in the old forms when someone comes along who knows how to treat them.« This verdict on Brahms' Handel Variations op. 24 comes from Richard Wagner, of all people: the latter asked Brahms at their only personal meeting to play the composition, which combines Baroque and Romantic formal idioms. For the pianist Alexandra Dovgan, born in 2007, the unusual work is virtually tailor-made. Grigory Sokolov, delighted by her talent and original interpretations, made a strong case for the musician. In 2019 she made her recital debut at the Salzburg Festival, and last year she celebrated her debut in the »Piano in the Mozart Hall« cycle at the Vienna Konzerthaus.
