Orfeo & Majnun
Orfeo & Majnun is a participatory project, which is co-funded by the EU. In addition to Belgium, France, Malta, Portugal, Poland and the Netherlands, the Wiener Konzerthaus in cooperation with Brunnenpassage and Basis.Kultur.Wien will realize the project in Austria. In Orfeo & Majnun the Greek myth of »Orpheus and Eurydice« meets the Arabic love story of »Leila and Majnun«. Wiener Konzerthaus’ most important mission is to make culture accessible to all people. Orfeo & Majnun presents an opportunity and a platform for all participants to exchange and realize creative ideas.
Love, Loss and Longing: Creative workshops of numerous genres and styles (dance, music, poetry slam, virtual reality, film, etc.) will be held on these topics, which connect the two stories. The newly composed musical work »Orfeo & Majnun« concludes the project in the Great Hall of the Wiener Konzerthaus. The opera, sung in German, English and Arabic, brings together not only amateurs and professional musicians on stage, but also classical European instruments with those of oriental origin.
