»Cheer, rejoice!«
The music for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Christmas Day of Johann Sebastian Bach's six-part cantata cycle known as the »Christmas Oratorio« is part of the standard seasonal decoration of every excellent programme; although, of course, the performances in detail can and should certainly vary from year to year. This year, Bach's Cantata Trio BWV 248 I-III will be performed in the Wiener Konzerthaus in a historical performance by the L'Orfeo Barockorchester, which will also be making its debut in the Great Hall. Under the musical direction of Michi Gaigg and with the participation of the Collegium Vocale of the Salzburg Bach Society, Bach's festively tuned choruses will resound befittingly. A hand-picked group of international soloists will provide quieter, more sensitive nuances.
