The myth of Oedipus
Michael Dangl presents a satirical correction of the ancient myth of Oedipus in Dürrenmatt's »The Dying of Pythia«: Pythia, a priestess in Delphi, appears as a disillusioned protagonist who only reluctantly devotes herself to her task of prophesying oracles. In Dürrenmatt's version, Oedipus pursues his fate knowingly - and yet the outcome does not change. Knowledge instead of ignorance, chance instead of fate are Dürrenmatt's leitmotifs.
