Orfeo & Majnun – Overview
»Orfeo & Majnun« is a participative EU-funded project that is taking place in seven countries. Following visits to Brussels, Valletta and Aix-en-Provence, »Orfeo & Majnun« is coming to Vienna in 2019. The Greek myth of »Orpheus and Eurydice« meets the oriental love story of »Layla and Majnun« to merge into a tale of love, loss, longing and the power of music.
A musical theatre performance in the Great Hall of the Wiener Konzerthaus will be combined with workshops staged in cooperation with Brunnenpassage and Basis.Kultur.Wien. Spanning several months, these will provide a platform for the participants’ creative responses to the notions of Love, Loss and Longing. All three of these are found in the story of »Orpheus and Eurydice« as much as in that of »Layla and Majnun«. They form the guiding theme of the entire project. The workshop groups will present the outcome of their own work – whether song, beatboxing, dance or poetry slam – in the Parcours that will take place at the StraßenKunstFest at Yppenplatz on 7 and 8 June 2019.
Wild animals are tamed with the aid of music and poetry in both stories. Basis.Kultur.Wien is offering Animal Making Workshops free of charge during the WIR SIND WIEN.FESTIVAL in May and June 2019. Create fascinating moving animals like butterflies, dolphins or ravens and learn how to move these creatures.
The project will conclude with a parcours and the performance of the newly composed musical theatre »Orfeo & Majnun« at the Wiener Konzerthaus on 10 June 2019.
