Organ Apotheosis
On the occasion of Anton Bruckner's 200th birthday, which will be celebrated on September 4, 2024, Hansjörg Albrecht has set himself the goal of recording all of the composer's symphonies as organ transcriptions. Although Bruckner's symphonies - as well as other of his works - have a firm place in the classical concert canon today, during his lifetime he was appreciated far less as a composer than as a virtuoso and improviser on the organ. Albrecht would like to pay tribute to Bruckner as a master of the organ with this project. He recorded Bruckner's most popular symphony, the Fourth with the nickname »Romantic«, on the Rieger organ of the Vienna Konzerthaus, the largest concert organ in Europe and one of the most important sound monuments between the fading Romanticism and the new historicism in organ building. Now he plays the 4th Symphony here again in concert. It is preceded by the work of another outstanding organist and composer who is also strongly rooted in the Catholic faith: »Dieu parmi nous« from the cycle »La Nativité du Seigneur« by Olivier Messiaen.
