The Good Side of Austropop

In their programme »Our Austria«, Ernst Molden and Nino Mandl – widely known as Der Nino aus Wien – explore the origins of Austropop, which has been so discredited and sometimes said to be dead. These lie in the joy of the German language, dialect, local and regional observations, linguistic images, feelings and circumstances - beyond any national patriotic small-mindedness. The fact that the pendulum swung sharply in the opposite direction from time to time, where young savages showed the old-timers their bare arse and wanted to make everything new, better, different and certainly not »Austropop«, is the natural course of things. Ernst Molden and Nino Mandl don't like everything that comes under this heading, but they do like some of it. And so they dedicate themselves to focussing on the good sides of Austropop, the essential names and the very best songs. And you can't deny that the duo have a certain expertise and are clearly working in the spirit of their predecessors.
