Great moments of quartet art

The Belcea Quartet promises starry moments of quartet art on its first evening in the Vienna Konzerthaus this season - and that in a double sense: the ensemble, which today is undisputedly at the top of the world, guarantees starry moments of quartet playing anyway. On top of that, this time the ensemble will perform three works that were composed during the golden age of quartet composition and represent it in an exemplary manner: In his so-called "Sun Quartets," the second of which opens the evening, Haydn shows himself more eager to experiment than ever before. The first of Beethoven's "Razumovsky Quartets" stands for the beginning of the era of professional quartet art. Finally, the deeply personal eighth is not only by far Shostakovich's best-known string quartet, but also one of the most famous quartets of the entire 20th century.
