Prodigies and early perfection
»Prodigies and early perfection« could be the motto for the season opener of the Quatuor Mosaïques. There are only a handful of works by Juan Crisóstomo de Arriaga, the »Spanish Mozart«, since tuberculosis took him shortly before his 20th birthday. With him, too, the art of music buried, as Grillparzer wrote two years later about Schubert, "a rich possession, but even more beautiful hopes. Arriaga's three string quartets in particular, which are strikingly close to Schubert and which the Quatuor Mosaïques takes up with beautiful regularity, emphasize the painfulness of his early loss for the music world. The work's association with Mozart's »Dissonance Quartet« and Schubert's famous D minor quartet »Death and the Maiden« guarantees a dramaturgically watertight concert experience.
