Transformation

When Quatuor Ébène nominally opens its »Belcea & Ébène« cycle together with the Belcea Quartet at the beginning of November, following a frenetically celebrated joint pilot project last May, it will mark the beginning of a new era in chamber music at the Vienna Konzerthaus: technically and interpretatively, the two ensembles are without a doubt at the top of the international quartet scene, and they also continue to set the tone in programmatic terms. On November 3, for example, Quatuor Ébène will not only open its quartet cycle, but also our portrait of György Ligeti, whose 1st String Quartet, strongly inspired by Bartók, places it in contexts with music by the Baroque »Orpheus britannicus« Henry Purcell and the Romanticism of Robert Schumann.
