The 15th edition of the »Bach Cantatas« cycle wraps itself in instrumental sable fur: two of Bach's four magnificent orchestral suites with their majestic French overtures wrap around the round of cantatas at the Wiener Konzerthaus, which includes previously unheard as well as familiar gems. With three cantatas from the »Christmas Oratorio«, the Dutch Bach specialist Ton Koopman is completely in his element. The doyen of historical performance practice on the podium of a modern orchestra acts as primus inter pares of a cycle completed by three original ensembles from Japan, Austria and Switzerland. The guest performances of the Orchestra of the J. S. Bach Foundation and Michi Gaigg's L'Orfeo Baroque Orchestra are adorned with two star sopranos of the early music scene: Nuria Rial and Dorothee Mields. Masaaki Suzuki and Ton Koopman, in turn, fan out the soloists to prominently cast four voices.
