This season, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra dedicates itself to Brahms: at the beginning to the »German Requiem« with the prominent soloists Christiane Karg and Matthias Goerne, and at the middle of the season to the first two symphonies. Another major vocal work in the »Vienna Symphony« cycle is the »Christmas Oratorio,« conducted by Bach specialist Ton Koopman. To close the season, former principal conductor Fabio Luisi returns to the Wiener Konzerthaus to present the rarely heard 2nd Symphony by Franz Schmidt. With the newly appointed Music Director of the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Oksana Lyniv, with Pablo Heras-Casado, the Austrian Patrick Hahn, Santtu-Matias Rouvali and Dima Slobodeniouk, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra continues its line of winning over the up-and-coming conductors of our time. This time the WSY artist is the multiple award-winning violinist Vilde Frang
