All Mozart!
Welcome to the third stage of the Hagen Quartet's Mozart journey! The quartet in A major K 464, which opens the evening, with its rather introverted character, is not as popular as the »Dissonance Quartet« K 465, which is also heard, but for contemporaries such as Beethoven it represented the pinnacle of Mozart's quartet art. The String Quartet in C Major K 465 received its nickname because of the tense Adagio beginning. As boldly as the work begins, as harmlessly simple is its continuation: the dance-like finale is probably the most cheerful movement of all the »Haydn Quartets«, the composition of which Mozart completed in January 1785. After a year and a half, he turned to the genre again with the »Hoffmeister Quartet«, completed in August 1786. Named after the composer and publisher Franz Anton Hoffmeister, it captivates with its mixture of melancholy and buffo elements, again reminiscent of »Figaro«.
