Presented by Wiener Konzerthausgesellschaft

»My Praguers understand me!«

This colloquial exclamation of Mozart's quite nicely illustrates the composer's heartfelt attachment to the »Golden City«, where he celebrated legendary triumphs in the last years of his life. The two concerts of the Swedish Chamber Orchestra recall this golden age of the genius in the metropolis of Moldavia with music that was all premiered there. The opening with the legendary »Don Giovanni« overture, which is said to have been played from a wet sheet at the premiere in Prague in 1787, seems almost inevitable, so hastily would Mozart have thrown it down on paper. Two Swedish star soloists emerge from the orchestral bracket with the darkly sparkling »Prague Symphony«: Mezzo-soprano Ann Hallenberg and master clarinetist Martin Fröst. The two halves of the concert proved to be cleverly intertwined by the instrumental link of the clarinet, which entered into a virtuoso competition with the voice immediately after the intermission.
