»Trance«
For many years now, the two pianists and friends, Chucho Valdés and Gonzalo Rubalcaba, have cultivated the fine art of conversation using 88 keys, and transcending all borders and genres. Both were born in Havanna and demonstrate how easy it can sound to combine elements of Bolero, Cuban Son, jazz and classical music. Their latest project »Trance« combines tradition with free thinking. Valdés, founder of the legendary Afro-Cuban jazz-rock combo Irakere, brings a more earthy element to the collaboration. The strengths of Rubalcaba, whose roots lie deeper in the tradition of jazz, lie in free floating motives. Nine years after his triumphant appearance here with Michel Legrand, Chucho Valdés is performing once again in the Wiener Konzerthaus.
