Honest and Emotional

The music of Imany is emotional and honest. She writes her own songs. They are songs of leaving and of the search for identity. The extremely talented French artist with African roots, with her expressive and smoky voice, is certainly someone who is not afraid to cross borders: Imany is spell-binding as she elegantly switches genres, from soul to jazz to folk, blues and pop. Her breakthrough hit was the melancholic single »You will never know«. Similarly melancholic was her 2012 album »The Shape Of A Broken Heart«. Imany is reminiscent of Tracy Chapman, but has a deeper voice and makes, in her own words, »acoustic music, handmade music, no boom-boom«. She will appear in the Main Hall with a big band: the two cellists Rodolphe Liskowitch and Julian Grattard, Taofik Farah (guitar), Stefane Goldman (electric guitar), Jean-François Ludovicus (drums), Laurian Daire (keyboards) and Stéphane Castry (bass). Last year, she scored an unexpected summer hit with »Don't Be So Shy«, in a remix by the Russian DJ duo Filatov & Karas, which transformed the sensuous acoustic song into a stomping club track that stormed to the top of the international charts. Since then, the former model from the Comoro Islands is constantly in the limelight with her recent album »The Wrong Kind of War« (2016) and her melancholy-suffused songs.
