Tales from a Thousand and One Nights
»Once upon a time ...« – the traditional beginning to a fairy tale would also be suitable introduction for Lotte Reiniger's silhouette animation film »The Adventures of Prince Achmed«. With »The Adventures of Prince Achmed«, Lotte Reiniger created a new film genre. With its special effects, the film is reminiscent of Georges Méliès and its magic lies in its silhouette figures. »If you consider that every one of the figures must be able to move all of their limbs … […], then you have roughly an idea of just what a marvel has been created here« was how one film critic put it after the premiere in May 1926. Just as powerful, colourful and oriental as the cinematic masterpiece is the music by Peter Rosmanith and Otto Lechner. The critically acclaimed musicians know how to create a just the right atmosphere and characterise the scene of the action in sound. In addition, they enable the audience to build cognitive bridges between the otherwise silent scenes.
