Frozen In Time
Avner Dorman is one of the world's most performed Israeli composers. Born in Tel Aviv in 1975, he combines an enormous wealth of musical interests in his works, whose supposed contradictions he knows how to bridge or cancel out with technical skill: influences of traditional music combine with advanced currents as well as with elements of pop and rock. Dorman wrote his percussion concerto »Frozen in Time« on the initiative of Martin Grubinger, who launched it in 2007 and now interprets it with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. »The title,« Avner Dorman reveals, »refers to imaginary snapshots of the Earth's geological development from prehistoric times to the present day. Although we can't be sure what the Earth looked like millions of years ago, most scientists agree that the individual continents once formed a single mega-continent (just as most believe humanity descended from a womb). Each set imagines the music of a large prehistoric continent at a particular time.«
