»Y«
Fascinated by the force of alphabetic characters, the French-based Israeli pianist Yaron Herman has called his 12th album simply »Y«. »Y« stands for the synthesis of opposites, but also for division. It was this that the former basketball player, who was born in 1981 and only learned to play the piano when he was 16, wanted to overcome in his new pieces. For many years now, this »latecomer« has stood for a lucid jazz that knows no dichotomy between the intellect and feelings, but even cleverly and boisterously seeks to blur the boundaries between them. In his latest Opus, Herman boldly combines elements of jazz, electronic and post-rock. No less than George Avakian, the producer of the Miles Davis classic »Kind of Blue«, once said of him: »Yaron is the real thing!«
